The Legends' "Keep Him"

The LegendsLast week, we highlighted an upbeat, rhythmic track, but this week we are bringing you “Keep Him” — a tender, loving, soft song from band The Legends.

Perhaps it is the fact that lead singer Johan Angergârd has a voice as soft as a tip-toe step that makes us feel so vulnerable. With the closeness of his voice, we feel like we are in the room with him. He creates so much space with excessively reverberated melodies that depict an acceptance of loneliness. “Keep Him” is produced with just the right amount of distortion to give the song a gently affectionate feel, but still allows us to hear the prolific lyrics.

It has been six years since The Legends have released an album, but Angergârd has been continuously releasing music through other dreamy synth-pop collaborations. The Legends comes from Sweden, where Angergârd runs the label Labrador. However, The Legends latest album, It’s Love, is released through the Brooklyn-based label, Cascine, who specializes in gorgeous synth-pop music, which often comes from outside of the U.S.

The album cover of a disassembled rose should give indication of what is to come from the sounds inside. However, it’s no wonder that It’s Love is so delicate, as it spawned from a disillusioned relationship, the birth of Angergârd’s daughter, and then the start of a new relationship. Instead of doing this specific material with another one of his bands, Angergârd knew that it was too deeply personal, and simply had to be done alone as The Legends.

Listen to the first line of the song and you’ll be hooked: “You long to be with someone/you need to be someone”. This very juxtaposition can be pondered over endlessly, but yet is still vague enough to sit against a motion picture. We believe that the song should be highlighted and adored at the forefront of a picture, very likely showing the strengths and weaknesses of questioning, relationships, and loneliness.

There is so much emotion and personal, authentic self poured into this album and we highly recommend you give it a listen. To do so, you can find it on your music-listening services, but also follow The Legends on social media to keep up!
