LissieThis week, we are bringing you some new material from artist Lissie and her new album: My Wild West. The album is laced with smokey vocals and a huge dose of country-inspired instrumentals. My Wild West is a testament to Lissie's love for the midwest as she just recently relocated to a large farm in Iowa after having spent 12 years in California. We can hear this transition in the music, with sounds of growing up and moving forward, and all of the trials and tribulations that come along with it.

It was challenging to select just one of Lissie's songs to feature today, but we have been especially moved by her song "Hero". We love the mysterious flow about the song; reminiscent of a windy day in an open field. The song is a tribute to letting go and trusting the process. Lissie's vocals, rustic and raw like a wooden stable beaten by weather, cry out "Bitter winds come in from the North/My spirit dims, but I feel the force/ 'No longer in my hands' I say to you". She blows her honest words to be carried away by the wind, beaten down but still standing.

This 33 year old artist is familiar with seeing her work against motion picture. Lissie has had her songs placed in shows like Grey's Anatomy, The O.C., Justified, and more. Since the new release is only building off of success from her 2010 album Catching a Tiger, we can't wait to see what placements lie ahead for this talented creator.

"Hero" has a bleeding sense of honesty and yearning that begs for recognition. The swooping vocals and melodic instrumental background are set up as perfect bed for a motion picture to lie. We can't wait to see where this song and the others on the album are chosen to be placed, but it is sure to be a success regardless.

Lissie is now on tour, so be sure to check out her personal website and follow her on social media to find out where you can see her live.

"This book had a direct impact on my career. From the multiple books that I have read on building a career in the music industry, this book is the most eye opening, informative, and useful of them all. It is akin to taking the brains and experience of fifty music industry vets and inserting them directly into your head."  –Adam A. Johnson

"Thank you for writing the Music Supervision book. I am a singer/songwriter, but wanted to better understand the perspective of music supervisors, and this book definitely helps me to do that."
