Someone recently told us “There’s too much killing going on,” and sadly we couldn’t agree more. We take so much of our freedom for granted and often forget that many don’t get to appreciate the same liberties. In light of recent events around our nation — in particular Ferguson, Missouri — MTV has launched a #LookDifferent campaign to bring awareness to the very real issue of modern racism.

The campaign, as of now, is comprised of two powerful :15 second PSAs that aired during Sunday’s VMAs. Our own Dave Hnatiuk, along with his songwriting and production partners Dave Huston, and Drew Yowell at DDD Music, co-wrote and co-produced the main Ferguson spot with an extremely tight turnaround, and it has since taken the web by storm.

Ahead of the main PSA’s debut, Rolling Stone noted that “The spot features a quote from writer James Baldwin unspooling against chants of ‘Hands up, don't shoot,’ a slogan that has arisen from the protests in the St. Louis suburb. An image of a sign with the town's name on it makes the reference unmistakable. ‘Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced,’ reads the quote.”

We encourage you to share these links and the PSA below to help spread awareness for the undeniable inequality that’s still a prevalent issue in contemporary American culture.
