Film-News UK: Soul Train coming to Broadway

Posted by

According to film-news.co.uk, famed Rock of Ages producer Matthew Weaver has “acquired the theatrical stage rights to the TV show from Soul Train Holdings LLC,” chaired by none other than Magic Johnson.
SoulTrain

Johnson apparently said “Soul Train has made a significant impact on American music and pop culture and its legacy and appeal continue to resonate around the world. Creating a live theatrical interpretation of this iconic franchise is an opportunity that could not be missed.” We agree.

Think of all the licensing opportunities! Although, Weaver has reportedly said, “We want to thrill the audiences who loved the TV show and introduce the incredible music and style of Soul Train to a new generation,” so we wonder what that means for the soundtrack. Will they go Grey’s Anatomy style and do modern interpretations of the classics, or do strict modern covers, or license original sound recordings? That remains to be seen, but regardless we’ve all got a new reason to dust off our dancing shoes!

  • "I'm one of the top Indie songwriter/producers in Canada with a catalog of over 250 songs. The SongHunters - Doug Diamond, Dave Weiss & Dave Hnatiuk, are always emailing me asking for submissions for their placement opportunities. They listen attentively to each of my submissions and end up getting me a synch license every so often - the last one with Airwalk Shoes. These guys are professional, helpful, and prompt with communication, working hard to get my music placed.  And they're nice guys too! Thanks SongHunters!"
