4th Annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards

Posted by

Guild of Music Supervisors

With the bulk of the awards season behind us, there’s not much to look forward to save the Oscars, the Brits (repeating tonight), and now, the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards.

The award show started in 2011 to recognize outstanding achievements in music supervision for “Motion Picture, Television, Games, Trailers, and Advertising.” This year the event will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at Mack Sennett Studios.

Mack Sennett Studios was chosen to host the event, as this year marks the 100th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s Hollywood arrival and when he began working on Mack Sennett silent films. Although, as legendary director Irving Thalberg once pointed out, “There has never been a silent movie industry, there’s always been music.”

Guild president, Maureen Crowe, added that music “Helps tell the stories and engages audiences,” noting further that, “we look forward to our annual awards event, which places a spotlight on this important craft.”

Music Supervision, or more rudimentarily, music licensing, has been around since the dawn of copyright protection in the 1700s, and has evolved into a highly skilled craft that has become an integral part of the entertainment industry.

Within the five main categories (motion picture, television, games, trailers, and advertising) the event will recognize 77 nominees in a total 14 categories including distinctions for drama, comedy or musical, reality television, documentary, motion pictures and many more.

See below for a full list of nominees and check out the Guild’s site for more information!
